Kicking 'Em When They're Down: Wisconsin Punishes People Who Can't Find Jobs (Because Oops They've Failed to Create Any) | Common Dreams
"Having created just 10% of the jobs he said he'd create and thus helped Wisconsin sink to the rank of 44th nationwide in economic performance and 50th in job growth, Scott Walker and his GOP cohorts are taking out their frustration on the jobless by proposing a bunch of bills that will, in one critic's words, find "seven new ways to get people kicked off unemployment insurance." Among the changes: The jobless will have to prove each week they looked for four, not just two jobs, to get benefits, and the state will be able to spy on - and freeze - their bank accounts to make sure they didn't get an extra 20 bucks, even if it was the state that screwed up the payments. This, while the legislature continues giving outrageous tax breaks to the rich, who inexplicably seem to be using their added wealth to be doing something - buying yachts, maybe? - other than creating jobs."
